Frequently Asked Questions
What's included and what isn’t?
Your own private apartment with a kitchen and bathroom. All apartments are fully-furnished including basic kitchenware. Apartments have been renovated and furnished in a typical Tuscan style and are in the main castle tower as well as the adjacent farmhouses. Beds include a comfortable mattress, pillows, and clean towels and linens. You also have access to our communal areas: co-working space, outdoor pool, event spaces, playground, coffee shop and a mountain full of forest to explore. All utilities and wi-fi in common areas are included. Food is not included. Classes, trips, transportation or other activities may cost extra or may happen organically.
What can I eat?
At the castle there is a small general store with a coffee bar and basics for cooking yourself as well as snacks. We try to keep everything bio/organic. There is a larger grocery store 15 minutes drive.
You can also order a ‘Meal Box’ and/or a ‘Snack Box’ for your stay. The Meal Box has all the ingredients you’ll need to cook four simple and healthy meals. The snack box is full of, well - snacks! (Cheeses, fruits, nuts, crackers, yogurts, chocolate, etc.) If you have specific needs please arrange with us in advance. Brunch is available onsite most weekends as well as make your own pizza in the castle’s stone oven.
The closest stores and restaurants are a five minute drive or 20-30 minute walk down the mountain. The restaurant at Villa Grassina is a 20 minute walk (open Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Friday). A bit further is a grocery store, cafes and the rest of the town of Pelago. (40 minute walk or 5 minute drive to Pelago).
What's the Nearest Town?
The small town of Pelago is situated at the foot of the castle. The historic center is a "mercatale" (marketplace) and a series of palaces which once belonged to members of the local aristocracy. You will find monuments, museums and churches dating back to the 14th century. Here, in a beautiful landscape with taverns or restaurants, you can taste the local mountain products, of which oil and wine are the oldest and most prestigious production. Don't forget about siesta, when the whole town closes down from 12:30 - 15:00.
does this ancient castle have wifi?
Yes, there is wifi in the common areas, it doesn’t reach far through the thick stone walls. We have a lovely community workspace in the castle with wifi and tables you are welcome to pull up a chair and get some work done there. There are a few apartments where the wifi reaches, you can request one - or request to not have one so you can unplug and get more rest. The current wifi speed is 8 down 2 up.
are pets allowed?
Yes, with some restrictions. There are certain animal-friendly apartments for rent to ensure those with allergies are not bothered in the future. Please contact us and we can assist you in booking a pet-friendly apartment. These apartments are normally on the ground-floor making it easier to go out for a walk in the woods or a quick bathroom break.
are kids allowed?
Of course! Many of our guests are families and the children love to play together here.
how many people can sleep in one apartment?
Our apartments range from studios that sleep 3 people to 2 bedrooms with lofts that can comfortably sleep 8 people.
what can i do when i'm there?
The engaging and social vibe here at the castle is what makes it unique. There’s 'Create Your Own Pizza' night once a week as well as other communal eating opportunities. Plenty of other events that are planned or come up spontaneously as guests organize them. In the short time we've been open our community members have had a blast cooking in the kitchen together, collecting and chopping firewood, foraging for salad and mushrooms, making pasta and pizza from scratch, hiking, jumping on the trampoline and simply enjoying each other's company at the pool or in front of the fire. Our space is based on options, so there’s interaction when you want it, and privacy as you need it.
